4 Signs from Your Window that may Indicate Bigger Problems

As part of your home’s exterior, your windows have to endure sunlight and the elements around the clock, all year long. Even when you maintain and clean them regularly, they will eventually get damaged. Not all window damage is equal, though. Sometimes, you just need to fix a small issue that some basic carpentry can address.

Bigger Problems

However, there are signs that indicate a much bigger issue that you might miss or need to address. At  Renewal by Andersen® of New Jersey-New York Metro, we know what these warning signs are and just how much the issues can get worse if left unaddressed. Read on to learn more about these clues.

1. Drafts or Breezes Entering

When you get near the window, do you feel a draft or breeze hit you? If the window is closed properly and you still feel it, that’s a sign your window is not performing well. If a draft can enter, it also means heat can easily enter and escape. This could lead to higher energy bills and significant energy loss. This also means that there’s a structural issue with your window as a whole, and a professional should check it out for repair or maintenance.

2. Difficult Operation

When you open your double-hung or casement windows in the room, check how smoothly the windows open. If one gets stuck or becomes hard to open, it could be a sign of moisture and heat damage. This damage could cause your window to bend and warp out of its original shape and measurements, which is a structural issue–and can eventually damage the window as a whole.

3. Deteriorating Finish

When you look at your picture windows in the living room, be sure to check the finish and paint. If either are fading or showing signs of damage, it’s a sign that there’s a moisture issue. Too much moisture can cause the frames of your window to warp and damage easily, which can be a bigger issue for the structure of the window.

4. Condensation Between Panes

If you look at your window and see droplets forming in between the panes, that means there is significant water damage occurring. It is a sign that your seal has failed and water is seeping into your window.
