Patio Door Maintenance: Best Practices to Observe

But then again, to own patio doors is to be responsible for their long-term upkeep. To maximize their service lives, keep these maintenance best practices in mind:

Cleaning the Glass Regularly

Wiping the exterior surfaces of both panes every once and a while helps prevent dirt buildup effectively. Compared to other products, ours make this task a breeze. All our of our patio door systems are equipped with High-Performance™ Low-E4® glass, which sports a microscopic, titanium dioxide coating. This layer of protection reduces water spotting up to 99%. When activated by the sun’s ultraviolet light, it increases the evaporation rate of the glass, allowing it to dry faster and cleaner.

Adjusting Panels in a Timely Manner

Jerky operation is the inconvenient consequence of house settling. When your swinging French doors start to rub against the frame or the sill, it’s imperative to adjust its problem panel.

In most cases, a horizontal adjustment is all it takes to correct misalignment. This is the process of moving panels side to side to square and center the panel in the opening. Turn the horizontal adjusting screw clockwise or counterclockwise to move the door closer to or away from the hinge side, respectively. With a 5/32”-Hex wrench, you can increase or decrease the gap between the panel and the frame’s hinge side in a manner of minutes.

Replacing Faulty Components Immediately

Sometimes, small components require replacement to ensure the optimal functionality of the whole. Without lubricating the moving parts of hinged and sliding patio doors accordingly, many of them can fail prematurely.
